ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

In this assignment you will explore Word & Image in a three dimensional format, as well as brand development, system thinking, packaging and pattern design through the concept and development of a candy brand and packaging for 2 flavors.

DELIVERABLES

  • Naming
    • Candy brand and 2 flavor names
    • Memorable & tempting
  • Logotype and/or Mark
    • Successful at small scale and legible in all applications
  • Candy Emboss/Deboss/Shape Mold
    • Distinct to your brand, applied to both candy flavors
  • 2 Related Pattern Designs
    • One pattern for each flavor
    • The pattern must be used on at least one element of the packaging
  • 2 Candy Related Wrapper Designs with Label
    • For a single piece of candy
    • One wrapper design for each flavor
  • Outer Packaging
    • To hold multiple candies–you determine how many.
    • The outer packaging may be used for a single flavor or both flavors
    • You may do one or two outer packages, depending on your concept

WRAPPER LABEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Front Panel Content Must Include:
    • Identity
    • Usual name of candy if it isn’t obvious in identity or flavor name (e.e. chocolate, or hard candy)
    • Flavor name
    • Net quantity or amount of product (e.g. ounces or grams)
  • Information Panel Must Include:
    • Name and address of the manufacturer or distributor (city, state, and zip code)
    • Ingredient list (listed in descending order of predominance by weight–greatest is listed first
    • Telephone number or URL for obtaining nutritional information, such as:
      • For nutrition information call 800-212-4040
      • Visit MyCandy.com for nutritional information

The type size for all lettering on the information panel must be no smaller than 6 point Upic, or All Caps type of not less than 1/16-inches in cap height. The letter must not be more than three times as high as they are wide, and the lettering must contrast sufficiently with the background so as to be easy to read.

    • Receive assignment; initiate work
  • Thurs, Nov. 12th – Break-out Group Reviews: Concepts & Research
    • DUE: candy selection; candy name & flavors; concept mood & design swipe references for packaging & pattern ideas
    • Post your work to the assignment 3 Miro board
  • Tues, Nov. 17th – Class Review: Candy Logo & Emboss WIP
    • DUE: logo studies & comp of candy emboss design
    • Post your work on the assignment 3 Miro board
  • Thurs, Nov. 19th – Break-out Group Reviews: Wrapper & Pattern WIP
    • DUE: Logo & Emboss refinement; wrapper design & pattern studies
    • Post your work the Assignment 3 Miro board
  • Tues, Nov. 24th – Break-out Group Reviews: Wrapper, pattern & Bag/Box WIP
    • DUE: Wrapper & pattern design revisions; bag/box design studies
    • Post your work on the Assignment 3 Miro board
  • Thurs, Nov 26th – THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY
    • No class
  • Tues, Dec 1st – Break-out Group Review: Flavor 1 & 2 set WIP
    • DUE: Wrapper & pattern adapted for second flavor; revised bag/box design.
    • Post your work on the Assignment 3 Miro Board
  • Thurs, Dec 3rd – Class Group Review: FINAL candy packaging design
    • DUE: Final Logo, candy emboss/deboss design (2 flavors); wrapper design (2 flavors); Bag/box design
