June 8th, 2008Here are the process pictures from all my projects this quarter. Sweat and tears went into all of them and I think it was worth it. Enjoy!
- Random cutting
- Creating panels of the same type of cuts
- Final
- Cutting strips that are still attached at the tops and bending them upwards
- Bending the paper into arcs
- Building on the idea
- Closing in
- More and more
- At this point my hand was completely sore from cutting and cutting and cutting
- Experimenting with bending and twisting a couple strips of felt
- Expanded version
- Angle 2
- Using stiches to keep it all in place
- After failing with the felt twists I tried to create the same idea with paper
- Twisting paper to create strands
- More twisting
- Using two twisted strands and twisting them together
- Beginnings of some kind of web
- 12 twisted strands, 1 net
- Cutting out shapes and seeing where they lead me
- Folding the oval in half
- Lots of the folded ovals layered together
- Top view
- Hundreds of ovals layered to cover just one square foot
- Folding post-its hoping to find something interesting
- Backside
- Creating the same folds with nicer paper
- 36 folded squares
- Creating felt bumps
- A couple more bumps
- Fnal product
- Learning to crochet
- Crocheting loops
- Discovering the natural scrunching effect of the loops
- Profile
- Using the felting needle to create strips from a shrunken sweater
- Many little scrunchy loops all piled together
- Using the stips to create spirals
- Whimsical spirals
- Experimentation with the felting needle and commercial felt
- The relief
- Raw wool and a strip of black commercial felt
- Using the felting needle to fold the raw wool over the black felt
- After the folding both sides of raw wool and felting them together using the needle
- 5 small strips combined together
- Another combined piece
- Slowly beginning to create a web (31 of the raw wool and black felt combos)
- Up on the wall for critique
- A bit of a close up
- Pretty natural light
- My piece hanging against the window in our classroom
- Web, muscle, custard apple?
- Up close and personal
- The beginning of cancer and a sticky glittery mess
- My volcano mold
- My mold was all glued together so I had to hack it open
- I had plaster stuck to my face, on my hair and in my mouth. Yum
- Plaster clinging to the resin
- I never thought it would get past this stage
- After lots of sanding
- My form after even more sandings surrounded by the particles of resin that now occupy my lungs
- No way. It’s shiny!
- Smooth too
- It came a long way
- A long tiring way indeed
