Create all assignments at 1080p resolution. 1920x1080px (Square Pixel) 23.976FPS . Save all your compositions in high quality. Develop storyboards for all of your projects. Create a single template for developing storyboards, and use this system for each of your exercises.

Video Export Settings

Export as a quicktime file .mov format using the H.264 video format/Codec. Set your data rate to 15000 kbps (15 Mbps). For audio use the AAC codec and a sampling rate of 48Khz 16Bit Stereo for exports. ALWAYS CHECK THAT YOUR VIDEO PLAYS BACK ON THE CLASS WEBSITE CORRECTLY!!

Create a 130×90px thumbnail for yourself. Save the icon in your sub-folder in the class “projects” directory as a jpg file: me.jpg. Check that it appears on the front page of the class website.

Assignment 1: Metamorphosis; (Final due M Apr 29)

In this assignment you will be constructing a freestanding sculptural form, which will then be augmented through the illusionary techniques of video mapping. The process of Metamorphosis will inspire the form that you construct and the projected imagery you create for its surface.

(parts 1 and 2 - Due W Apr 3)

Part 1 : Search for 9 images as examples of metamorphosis in the context of Organic(3) Man-Made(3) and Abstract(3).

Part 2 : Sketch 3 sculptural forms (organic, man-made, abstract) inspired by your selected images. Place the 9 images and 3 sketches in a folder with your name on it in the class drop folder. You will be presenting these images in class.

Deliverables: Multiple page PDF

(parts 3 - Due M Apr 8)

Part 3: Using a 15x20" piece of illustration board and a hot glue gun create a miniature version of your chosen sculptural form.

Deliverables: Miniature sculptural form.

(parts 4 - Due W Apr 10)

Part 4: With your chosen theme for metamorphosis and taking inspiration from your sculptural form, create a moodboard/ideasboard (8 frames minimum) that illustrates how you plan to manipulate and augment your sculpture through video mapping.

Deliverables: Tabloid sized PDF.

(parts 5 - Due M Apr 15)

Part 5a: Using 8x4' sheets of foam-core and a hot glue gun create your large-scale sculptural form.

Part 5b: Develop your ideas and visuals from part4 into a storyboard (8 frames minimum) to present to the class.

Deliverables: Large sculptural form and Tabloid sized PDF.

(parts 6 - Due W Apr 17)

Part 6: Create a 10 second (minimum) clip inspired by your storyboard to test video mapping on the sculptural form.

(parts 7 - Due M Apr 22)

Part 7: Create a rough draft of your entire animation/video to test on the sculptural form. MID POINT REVIEW.

(parts 8 - Due M Apr 29)

Part 8: Finish your animation/video to present your final metamorphosed sculpture.

(parts 9 - Due M May 1)

Part 8: Metamorphosis documentation due.

Assignment 2: Architectural Intervention (Final due W Jun 6)

(parts 1 - Due M May 6)

Part 1: Generate 10 different ideas for projection works that could fit into the locations scouted during class. Put these ideas down on paper to present during Mondays class.

(parts 2 - Due W May 9)

Part 2: Create a moodboard/ideas board that illustrates the visual qualities of your architectural intervention concept.

Deliverables: PDF, tabloid size

(parts 3 - Due M May 13)

Part 3: Create an animatic or short test animation to illustrate your idea. Composite this onto the photographs of the building facade to help create the illusion of what it would be like projected onto the building.

(parts 4 - Due M Jun 3)

Part 4: Create your architectural intervention artwork for a run through and documentation opportunity on Monday June 3rd!!

Video HD - 3072x768px, Square Pixel, H.264 Compression.
Place the file in the class drop folder“Arch_Int>FINAL” directory (naming convention: yourname_final.mov).

(parts 5 - Due W Jun 6)

Part 5: Make any last minute changes, upgrades and tweaks to you project and upload the file to the class drop>Arch_Int>Final folder by 5pm!!! Don't forget to document your artwork during the performance.

(parts 6 - Due M Jun 10)

Part 6: Create a 30 - 60 second video edit documenting your Architectural Intervention piece. Include title and credits.
