Felting/Fibers
Hand Felt:
Roving wool (Amazon and JoAnn)
Roving Wool (AlpacaDirect–Colonial)
Roving Wool (AlpacaDirect—Merinos)
You may need to buy several packages, I suggest at list 4 pounds. Please remember to stick to white or natural wool color (off-white, gray and charcoal.)
Additional material for hand felting:
Towels
Plastic bottles with cap
Castile soap
Sushi mats
plastic sheets
Cutting and Folding felt:
Craft industrial felt —mixed (white)
Craft industrial felt —100% wool (red)
Craft industrial felt—100% poliester (gray)
There are numerous varieties of craft and industrial felt. The 100% wool is sometime crispier but maintains the cuts and the body shape better. I suggest you visit a JoAnn store; or if you are in Downtown, don’t miss Michael Levine ’s fabric store.
You can also browse second hand stores and look for 100% wool sweaters. Put them in the washer with hot water and detergent and they will felt, giving you basic material to work with.
Crochet:
Crochet hook size G 4.25mm
Merinos Wool (colors: Winter White, accents: Gray Mix, Dk Gray Mix, Rich Red)
Remember that 100% wool can be also felted. You can find this material at JoAnn or Michales or any knitting store. Try “Stiches From the Heart” a knitting supply store on 3316 Pico Blvd. Santa Monica, CA 90405. It is also a non-profit organization hat sends handmade clothing and blankets to premature babies all across the nation.
