Laser Cutter Demo Tuesday 5:00pm - meet at shop on 2nd floor

January 26th, 2009

Hi Eddo,

As we talked about (but never confirmed)–we will do a brief laser demo and orientation for the grad students in your class on Tuesday, Jan 27 (tomorrow) at 5. Romie is one of our laser specialists, and he’ll explain the basics, incl. how to ensure that your file will output properly. It will probably take one hour or less. After that, grads in your class will be ready to make use of the laser, and start making amazing projects!

To be clear, the laser will only be run by Romie/Peter, or me. There are several blocks each week where students can sign up to cut their projects, in 1 hour appointments. As usage increases, we may need to either add more sessions, or divide them further into 30 min. blocks. Anyone with questions regarding their files can email or see me in person for some tips/guidance. The appointments are intended for the actual cutting and payment process only. Students are expected to show up to their appointment with:
• file ready
• checkbook or enough cash+coins for exact change
• material to be cut
There is now a growing collection of scrap and new material for cutting available for sale in the FabLab. Prices vary by material, but scrap acrylic is around $2/sq. ft.

Lab hours and laser cutting times can be viewed here:

you can subscribe via iCal here:

Laser times are scheduled through me, and I will try to add it to the Google Calendar ASAP after it is confirmed.

*Romie, I’m putting 20 copies of the laser illustrator PDF in the room so they are there for the orientation. Also, please start a sign-in sheet so that I know who has taken the orientation and who hasn’t.
