DESCRIPTION:

Focus on practical applications of photogrammetry, 3-D modeling, geolocation, augmented reality, and smartphone as interface for location-based media art. Working with Japanese media artist Masaki Fujihata, students explore possibilities of these tools. Students participate in creation of major new art project, BeHere LA, to be shown in Los Angeles. This work aims at re-creating scenes related to multicultural nature of Southern California culture and positioning them in real venues, to be accessed in augmented reality through custom-made smartphone app. Students also produce their own experiments under instructor guidance.
